Church of the Annunication

Blackpool, Cork. ireland.

The project comprised the refurbishment and upgrade of existing Church at Watercourse Road, Blackpool, Cork City. The original building was designed by the late Seamus Murphy and completed in 1945, and contained stained glass windows from the famous Harry Clarke Studios. The works generally comprised repairs and re-roofing of existing roof finishes and structures, decoration internally, new access to bell tower and attic, insulation to attic and part external walls, the construction of a new draught lobby and new floor finishes to the balcony area, as well as the provision of a new Confessional box. New Wheelchair access, including repairs to Pavings and Railings including associated decoration of same. One of the main challlenges encountered with the project, and in particular due to the significance and sensitivity of the existing building and associated features, was the requirement to undertake the works on a phased basis to ensure the functionality on the Church Services with minimal disruption to same.
